Consultation for Teachers & Schools

Adena offers consultation for math educators to support their professional development and assist with the challenges that they experience in their classrooms.  Consultation sessions are tailored to the needs of the consultee(s), and are meant to help them develop deeper understanding of their teaching, their curricula, and their students.  Here are some examples of questions my consultees have brought to our sessions:
  • What does it mean to learn math?
  • What are my personal philosophies about teaching math?
  • What are my instructional goals for my math class(es)?
  • What do I want students to develop in my class?
  • What are effective and meaningful ways of assessing student growth and mastery?
  • How can I help students to become stronger thinkers and problem solvers?
  • How can I teach to all of my students when there is such a range of ability levels in my class?
  • Can you help me understand this student’s disability?
  • What are effective ways to structure my course by day, week, lesson, etc?
  • How do I prioritize what I teach and what I don’t teach?
  • How do I know how to pace my teaching?
  • How can I take the school-prescribed curriculum and make it my own?
  • How do I juggle multiple course preps?
  • How do I help a student who presents with ____________?
  • How do I talk to a parent who is asking _____________?
  • How do I work with a colleague who _______________?
  • How do I want to grow as a math teacher this year?
Adena also provides consultation for schools to assist with evaluating and developing systematic practices related to mathematics teaching and learning (e.g., assessment standards, curriculum development, evaluation practices).  Adena is happy to work with individual teachers seeking support, as well as schools who are interested in contracting consultation services for their math teachers and/or school staff.
